jesus comes to play!
02.22.06 (11:45 pm)   [edit]

i sat for quite some time this evening wondering to myself how i could humorously open yet another rant on the insanity that is consumerist xianity. i must admit i failed to come up with anything witty so instead picture me in a grass skirt humming a cheesy elevator version of girl from ipenema.

after the trauma has subsided consider this:

yep. hezekiah 9:6 states exactly that and the people at the god squad ™ are not about to miss out on the payday either. theyve developed a jesus doll that any kid would befriend. the words in blue are quoted from the site…

he sings you are my sunshine – bc every kid needs to know that jesus is sad and incomplete without them.

he wears a cross necklace! matching one including for your child too – bc if theres one piece of jewelry jesus prolly really enjoys its a heinous pewter dangle version of his worst day ever.

you can comb his hair to look like yours – bc the whole point of jesus gospel is for him to conform to us.

hes soft and always ready to give a hug – bc after a rough day of playing at the daycare your child needs the cuddly affections of a $29.95 hunk of blasphemy.

his clothes and sandals are removeable – bc for some unknown reason naked jesus seemed like a really good idea for a childs play toy.

and finally hes big and 17 inches tall – bc just being one or the other wasnt quite impressive enough.

they dont plug this but hes also strikingly anglo – bc everyone knows jesus was white (except his mom…..who was jewish.)

i think my favorite part is the 100% satisfaction guarantee they offer at the bottom.

if you dont find this just a bit disturbing maybe you also found yourself humming along when you pictured me in the skirt and maybe you thot that was a really pleasant image. i assure you however that the only people who could intermingle that image of me and pleasant thots obviously do not know me and should never be allowed to ™ my likeness for personal monetary gain without some sort of eternal punishment. for now everyone is safe tho bc jesus comes to kick arse and take names hasnt come out yet...

Just so you know, the people selling this also offer "Buddha Comes to Play", "Freedom", etc.

So there aren't Christians out to make money, they are a company using all kinds of religions to make money.

Not sure its worth getting in such a fuss over, not suprising that people do stuff like this really.

But its not "consumerist xianity". Focusing on it is just a distraction. The real enemy is something else entirely.

LOL! That's why people outside of xianity don't take us seriously cause we use propaganda to lure them in and we now use JESUS as an element of ballyhoo! Nice...Grace is but a credit card payment away; YES!!!!!!!

jeez grace, ever been to a religeous goods store? Especially a Catholic one? They've got tons of stuff (some of which has been "blessed") that makes this look like what it is, a really weird doll. In the middle of Michigan there's what's purported to be "the world's largest crucifix." The gift shop there is really amazing. I was there with my ex the year before my divorce. The "blow-out sale" on rosaries was especially tasteful, I thought. "Over 1000 varieties" were up to 50% off! The nature walk/Stations of the cross attraction featured coin operated candles at each stop along the way. A quarter got you two minutes of "candle" (flashlight bulb atop white cylindrical base.)

On the other hand, I treasure my "Buddy Jesus", my posable gumby-style Jesus and the ashtray (which I don't use, but that I really like) a reader sent me showing Jesus sitting and working at a computer wearing a t-shirt that reads "My Dad created the World and all I got was this lousy T-shirt."

I know... I know...

It's so wrong on so many levels. But it doesn't surprise me, Christianity is being blashpemed against or attacked daily both directly and indirectly. The world does not know or love God.

I think they meant well, really. It's your comments that made it so cynical and funny. I think it was a good idea gone awry. Some adjustments need to be made. If they could figure it out...

Jesus DID love the little children.

i agree this isnt the ultimate enemy - its merely a symptom of a much larger problem but since these guys are marketting a jesus doll its a safe bet the target consumers are xians and that was my point to begin with. look at the symptoms to discover the problem.
